Drive systems

Type 1: NV147 Quadra-Trac ITMOn-demand 4-wheel drive transfer case with one operating range – the only operating range is 4-high. Optional on 2004 Laredo models only.

Operating Modes: 4WD High, full-time

Center Differential: Planetary with low-range lock

Torque Split: F/R 48/52

Type 2: NV247 Quadra-Trac IITMOn-demand 4-wheel drive transfer case with two operating ranges and a neutral position. Operating ranges are 4-high and 4-low. The 4-low range is used for extra pulling power in off-road situations. Utilizes a gerotor coupling to automatically send torque to the front driveshaft when wheel slippage occurs.

Operating Modes:

4WD High
Neutral
4WD Low, part-time

Low Range Ratio: 2.72:1

Center Differential: Gerotor pump-applied disc clutch with low-range lock

Torque Split: Variable (0-100%)

Type 3: NV242 Selec-TracTM

Provides full time 2-wheel, or 4-wheel drive operation. A differential in the transfer case is used to control torque transfer to the front and rear axles. A low range gear provides increased low speed torque capability for off road operation. The geartrain is mounted in two aluminum case halves attached with bolts. The mainshaft front and rear bearings are mounted in aluminum retainer housings bolted to the case halves.

Operating Modes:

2WD
4WD High, full-time
4WD High, part-time
Neutral
4WD Low, part-time

Low Range Reduction Ratio: 2.72:1

Center Differential: Open, Planetary with low-range lock

Torque Split: F/R 48/52

Type 4: Quadra-DriveTM (NV-247 or NV-147 transfer case with Vari-Lok differentials)

On demand, utilizes a gerotor and coupling in the Quadra-Trac II transfer case and gerotor couplings in the Vari-Lok front and rear progressive axles to send torque to the front driveshaft and/or from side-to-side within each axle when wheel slippage occurs; includes low-range (2.72:1)

Suspension and chassis

Front Suspension Solid axle for optimum ground clearance with four locating arms, coil springs, track and stabilizer bars, steering damper and low-pressure gas-charged shock absorbers (Monotube high-pressure gas charged shock absorbers on Overland & U/C Pkg); Quadra-Trac II(TM) 4WD-equipped models feature constant velocity joints
Rear Suspension Solid axle for optimum ground clearance with two trailing lower arms, triangular upper arm, coil springs, stabilizer bar, low-pressure gas-charged shock absorbers (Monotube high-pressure gas charged shock absorbers on Overland & U/C Pkg)
Steering Power-assisted, recirculating ball
Overall ratio: 14.2:1
Steering Turns (lock-to-lock): 2.94
Turning Diameter 37.4 ft. curb-to-curb
Brake System Front — Hydraulic, power-assisted low-drag ventilated disc brakes; dual piston calipers; composite steel; 12.0-in rotor diameter
Rear — Hydraulic, power-assisted low-drag disc brakes; single piston calipers; composite steel; 12.0-in rotor diameter
Anti-lock brake system — Three-channel with four-wheel speed sensors and electronic brake distribution (EBD)
